Octaman is a 1971 monster film directed by Harry Essex, who had written “Creature From The Black Lagoon”,”It Came from Outer Space” and “The Sons of Katie Elder” plus other classic science fiction movies. It follows an expedition team that becomes the target of a murderous humanoid octopus. The film has gathered a cult following. It is also known that this is the first film where special effects master Rick Baker did the effects for.

Octaman is a genetically mutated Octopus that gradually transformed into a humanoid Octopus due to an unknown exposure to the nuclear radiations in the local waters in Mexico. Octaman is a green skinned seven foot tall humanoid Octopus with large orange eyes and eight regular Octopus tentacles. The two upper front tentacles are used as fore-limbs, the two lower front tentacles are used as hind limbs to walk, where as the rest of the tentacles are at the back.
A scientific expedition to a remote Mexican fishing community, led by Dr. Rick Torres and Susan Lowry discovers unhealthy amounts of radiation in the local waters. They find a small mutant octopus that can crawl on land, so to receive further funding for their project, Torres travels back to the States to make a deal with a circus owner, who is interested in the bizarre mutation as a carny act. They return to the camp to discover that their crew has been slaughtered and the octopus specimen is missing. A young man from the village says that a local legend about a creature said to be half man and half sea serpent is true, and offers to take the scientists to the lake where it is purported to live. There, a seven foot tall bloodthirsty humanoid octopus with amazing strength and a lust for killing is discovered, but it escapes. At night, the octopus-man arrives and the crew attempts to trap it in a ring of fire. By the next day, the octopus-man is still alive and has killed several people, so the survivors encounter the octopus-man and shoot it to death.
The film met with negative reception. It has a rating of 3.4/10 on IMDb. Despite this, the film has obtained a cult following over the years. Octaman was released on the VHS format by the European Video Corporation. A 40th anniversary widescreen DVD edition was released in 2012 by BayView Entertainment. A clip from Octaman was briefly shown in the 1990 film Gremlins 2: The New Batch, though said to be called "The Attack of the Octopus People". Final film of Pier Angeli. She died of a drug overdose during shooting.
